Personal Project Individual Work Multi-week Build

Project Overview

To convert a road bike frame into a single-speed fixed-gear build from the ground up - bikes are an important part of my life and have been the perfect outlet for hanging out with friends, getting around the city, and having something to tinker with and customize. I have been fascinated with the fixed-gear culture for some time and decided I needed to build one myself. I researched what it would take to build a safe and proper fixed gear bike, ordered parts online, tracked down local second-hand parts, planned the entire parts list, and referenced catalogs for bike part sizes and compatibility. The frame had a damaged dropout which I brought to a professional framebuilder for repair, then I built the bike from the ground up utilizing BU's Cycle Kitchen, checking for chain tension and safety, and learned to service the bike to ensure longevity.
